Wonder of Oz Pop-out card

Wonder of Oz Pop-out card

Today, I’m sharing a Wonder of Oz Pop-out card using the New Wonder of Oz collection from Spellbinders. The card has a simple front that looks like a Leather bound book opening up to a Fun Wonder of Oz scene using several different items from the new collection paired with a couple other die sets from old collections. The card base is created using two A2 card bases. The first one is trimmed (when open) to just why of the 6 3/8″ mark. The second one is opened and and additional score line is added at the 2 1/8″ mark. The two pieces are joined together to create a W or an M shape.

The card front uses the Wonder of OZ Plate and die set in the Betterpress system with Acorn cardstock. The plate is inked with Versamark ink, pressed and Heat embossed with Walnut Stain distress glaze. A scond one is done for the back of the card but using the coordinating die to die cut the “There is no place like Home” sentiment in the centre.

The Field of Poppies Embossing folder was used with Hammermill cardstock. The cardstock is taped to the embossing folder and inked with Mowed Lawn distress ink before embossing. This step is repeated 3-4 times untill desired coverage is achieved. The poppies are inked with Candied Apple distress ink and the centres are inked with Hickory Smoke distress ink. The embossed background is trimmed down using detail scissors.

Emerald city is created using Peridot cardstock with the Castle Tales die set. The columns are trimmed to the following sizes: outside 1/2″ x 2 3/4″, second from outside 3/4″ x 4″, centre back 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ & centre front 1″ x 2 1/2″. These strips and die cuts are inked with Mowed Lawn distress ink and then inked with Summer Garden interference ink before assembling and adding to the card base. The Embossed poppies are added to the sides and in front of the Emerald city.

The card background sky is ink blended with Tumbled glass and Uncharted Mariner Distress ink using Large blending brushes.

A strip of Beeswax cardstock 1″ x 11″ is scored at 1″, 2 3/4″, 5 1/2″, 8 1/4″ and 10″. Shears are used to add a curved edge to the top and Fossilized amber distress ink is used to add shadow to the bottom. The Wonder of Oz silhouette die cut is lightly inked with the Summer Garden interference ink around the top edges before adding to the centre of the Beeswax Yellow brick road and attaching to the card centre gluing just the outer 1″ piece.
