Today, I’m using the New Floral Alphabet Press Plates from Spellbinders to create a Christmas themed Joy Frame. This is a play on my last video where I used these plates to create Joy Blocks with a Spring colour palette. For this project, I changed the floral die cuts to look more like poinsettias and also used more Christmassy colours. I used the word Joy but this would work for other words as well, you would need to adjust the frame size for a longer word though. Ad
For the First frame, I used the traditional Betterpress ink and pressed the J, O and Y from the New Every Occasion Floral Alphabet press plate collection from Spellbinders onto Watercolour Cardstock. These were pressed onto a piece of 5″ x 7″ watercolour cardstock using the Betterpress system and the Spellbinders Platinum 6 (Betterpress paper would create an even better impression than the watercolour cardstock but I was out and my order had not arrived yet at the time of filming) I watercoloured the greenery on the pressed letters with Gold perfect pearls mixed with water using a waterbrush. The flowers for the Poinsettias and the Holly are from the Christmas Blooms die set. They were die cut from cardstock scraps and sculpted using a Stylus and embossing mat. These florals and greenery were inked using detail ink blending brushes and distress inks befores sculpting. Once all of the florals were done, they were glued onto the letters using Bearly art glue in a fine tipped bottle. The centres of the Flowers are finished off with a drop of Stickles for Sparkle. Once dry, I glued the finished piece into a 5″ x 7″ Black Shadowbox frame. I love the depth you get from using a shadowbox frame.
For the Second Christmas Joy Frame, I used Versamark ink on the Letter press plates, pressed it onto Black Mixed Media Heavystock and then Embossed it with Detail Gold Embossing powder. I used the same floral die cuts for the Poinsetias and inked them and sculpted them the same way as the first frame. The centres of the poinsettias for this frame are finished off with tiny Nail gems and Pearls using a Jewel Picker for some sparkle before gluing into the 5″ x 7″ Shadowbox frame.
