Chemistry Themed Card

Chemistry Themed Card

In this video, I’m creating a Chemistry themed card using the New Laboratory Glassware die set from the Propegation Garden Collection from Spellbinders. To make this card more interactive, it will be a water shaker card and I will colour the water with dye ink pad refills and also add some mica powder that will settle at the bottom of the bottle until shaken and mixed. I love the new Propegation Garden Collection from Spellbinders Paper Arts and thought it would be fun to create a water Shaker card using the new Laboratory Glassware die set. Because of the size of these dies, I chose to create a larger 5″ x 7″ card to give each one of the die cut openings room for the water shaker element. The card front piece that the glassware is cut from is 4 3/4″ x 5 3/4″ but (as mentioned in the video) if I were to do it again, I would make it 4 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ to make the mat behind it a little more visible. I spaced the dies on the card front piece and taped them in place before die cutting. I also die cut the black pieces for the measurements on the sides of the “glass”. The openings are covered with acetate behind the die cut openings and taped in place with strong double sided adhesive. Before continuing, I used the chisel end of a black copic marker to create a faux mat before assembling the water shaker elements.

The water shaker elements are created with craft ziplock bags that are slightly larger than the die cut openings. The ziplock bags are filled 1/4-1/3 with water, a drop of dye based ink pad refill for colour and a scoop of mica powder. Make sure to seal the ziplock bags properly so there is no water leakage. I also taped the top of the bags to make sure nothing could leak. I used paper towel to ensure that there was no liquid that had escaped and was on the outside of the bag. The bags are placed behind the windows and taped in place to make sure they are secure behind the card front. Once the bags are all taped in place, I added a double layer of adhesive foam tape to the back.

I added white cardstock to the centre of the purple mat so that the purple would not show through the laboratory glass. That purple mat was added to the card base and then the card front is added. The bubbles stamp from the Propegation Garden sentiments set was stamped with a lost shadow ink pad and then the chemistry sentiment that was printed from the computer and trimmed down, was added to the card front to finish the card off.
