Today, I’m sharing Alcohol Ink Techniques for Beginners using the New Field Notes collection from Spellbinders. The techniques in these cards are some of my favourite ways to use Alcohol inks with Press plates and Embossing folders that are SO simple, even beginners can do it! Ad

Before creating any cards, 5 Alcohol ink backgrounds were created on Yupo using Isopropyl alcohol and and Alcohol ink blower tool to spread the ink around. Once dry, the cards can be created.
The first car uses one of the alcohol ink backgrounds as is. A sentiment is added to the background using the betterpress system with betterpress ink. The Hydrangea type flower from the Wildflowers die set is added as a focal point.
The second card uses a similar background as the first. The Wildflower press plate images is added to the Alcohol ink background using Jet Black Archival ink. Once dry, the image is trimmed and added to a card base with a matt.

The third card card uses the Fern Press plate in the Betterpress system and lifts that fern print from the alcohol ink background using an Alcohol lift ink pad. The ink is blotted with paper towel to create a crisp ghost type image. The lifted ink on the press plate can be pressed onto glossy cardstock to create an additional card. I ended up not creating on due to an archival ink smudge left on that piece from my finger.
The fourth card uses one of the alcohol ink backgrounds with the Field notes 3D Embossing folder for embossed texture. That texture is enhanced by sanding the top layer of alcohol ink off of the embossed surface.

The fifth card also uses the alcohol ink background in the Field notes embossing folder. This time, the blackout techniques is created using Jet black archival ink in the embossing folder to colour the background of the embossed piece, leaving the raised image in the original alcohol ink colours. One of the die cut wildflowers is added as a focal point as well as a sentiment left over from a previous project.
