Distress Refills are one of my Favourite ways to watercolour but there are several other Distress Refill Techniques other than Refilling Distress ink pads. I will be using both Distress ink refills as well as Distress Oxide refills. In this video, I’m creating two different cards using the New “Flying to See You” stamp from the Every Day collection collaboration between House Mouse Designs and Spellbinders Paper Arts. As soon as I saw this stamp set I thought it would be adorable as a spinner card but also suitable for a non-interactive card as well.

The Flying to See You stamp is part of the House Mouse Every Day Collection over at Spellbinders Paper arts. This is a collection of adorable House Mouse Designs stamps that are in collaboration with Spellbinders. I love the sentiments included with this adorable Mouse, especially the “You can do it” sentiment which would be perfect for a card of encouragement.
To create the background, I used the Layered Holly Background stencil set on Mixed Media Heavystock using distress refills to create coloured sprays as well as Shimmer sprays. I’m also using Distress refill to colour Solar paste and use as the Berries with the stencil.
While the paste on the background is drying, The Flying to See you stamp was stamped using a Misti stamping tool with Walnut stain Distress Oxide ink and Embossed with clear Embossing powder using a Heat tool. The image was then Watercoloured with distress refills.
Once dry the image was die cut with circle dies. The sentiment strip is created and mattes cut and the card is assembled using Bearly Art Glue.
For the Spinner Card, The background is created first using Distress Oxide inks on Kraft Mixed media heavystock to create a chalky coloured background. I used a heat it tool to dry the ink between layers and set aside to fully dry. some of those layers build up and it takes a while for the pigment part of the ink to dry, I let it sit overnight. An embossing gun could also be used to help speed that up.
While the background is fully drying, The mouse is stamped using the Misti stamping tool with Walnut Distress oxide ink and embossied with Clear Embossing powder. It is then Watercoloured with Distress Oxide Inks. and once dry it is cut out with Detail cutting scissors.
I used a Curvy Border die set to draw a channel for the spinner element. I used a craft knife and cutting pad to cut it out. The channel needs to be a little wider than the pop dot to allow it to spin. Once the channel is cut the Spinner is created using a Foam pop dot and 2 pennies (you can also use metal washers. The Spinner channel front is attached to the Card front using foam tape that is high enough to allow the penny to spin (if your foam tape is too thin, you can use a double layer). Once the spinner front is attached to the card, the cut-out Mouse can be attached to the Penny.
The last step is to Stamp and Emboss the Sentiment stamp using the Misti Stamping tool with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide ink and White Embossing powder. I used a Mini Trimmer to trim down the Sentiment and attach it to the Card Front using Bearly Art Glue.
